A Permaculture Project and Nature Reserve in Alentejo, Portugal
Story
We’re Jonathan, Calla, Jay, Kai and Jac. We’re a French-American family who have taken a leap of faith and settled here in Alentejo, Portugal. Our dream is to live simply, grow our own food, take good care of our land, and eventually be able to welcome guests for family-friendly wellness and nature retreats.
Jon is a wildlife photographer & entrepreneur. He creates websites, teaches photography, and organizes ethical wildlife tours. He loves being on the land, learning more and more about permaculture, creating visions for our many projects and making things happen, spotting birds, and being with his family:)
Calla is a US trained Naturopathic Doctor, a doula, yoga teacher, and craniosacral therapist. She’s passionate about empowering women and supporting them through life’s big transitions/events. She’s always striving to live a life, and parent, in a way that honors and learns from Mother Earth, treats others with love and acceptance, and stays humble. She loves to cook healthy food, use medicinal herbs, and be in nature with her family:)
Jay (5), Kai (2) and Jac 🐶 (8), are nature boys at heart and living their best lives since we’ve moved here:) Our neighbor’s tractors, quads, puppies, & farm animals are such endless entertainment!
We’ve decided to start sharing and documenting our process of changing up our life path and building our dream. Feel free to contact us!

Land
Located in Alentejo, southern Portugal, our traditional “Monte Alentejano” is nested in several hectares of beautiful land dotted with cork oak trees, olive trees and more. Here, nature has all its place.
Birds of Alentejo
Our corner of Alentejo is absolutely spectacular for birds. Southern Portugal is the best part of the country for birding. Below you will find bird species that we see on our land, with pictures taken on our land as well.
