Birds of our Land in Alentejo, Portugal

Eurasian Collared-Dove

The Eurasian Collared-Dove is a resident species of our region, and we love seing them flying over our land every day. We especially enjoy watching them resting on dead trees. Its unique song, given by the male, reminds the sound of the Tawny Owl. The male sings to defend territories and attract mates. The middle syllable is much longer than the first and last : koo-koooooooo-kook.
