An incredible birding drive in Alentejo #2

Today, as we do at least once a week, I took my boys to our closest village to get bread at the “padaria” and run a couple of errands. Once again, our drive was filled with many many fantastic bird sightings. It was one of those days where they all show up for you :) Little by little I feel my sons more and more into spotting birds too, which is really fun. They both watch on their side of the car and shout “bird” anytime they see something, the eldest already knowing pretty well our local bird species, and the youngest one often wanting to get my binoculars and try to look at the birds. This make each drive to our village a real adventure for all of us. Here is the list of what we saw :

  • Golden Oriole

  • European Bee-eater

  • 2 Black-winged Kites

  • House Sparrows

  • Iberian Magpies

  • Spotless Starlings

  • White Stork

  • Short-toed Snake-Eagle

  • Little Owl

  • 2 Iberian Grey Shrikes

  • Woodchat Shrike

  • European Stonechat

  • 2 Common Kestrels

  • Eurasian Collared-Doves

  • Common Buzzard

  • Crested Larks

  • Barn Swallows

  • Common Swifts

  • Common Raven
