Rio Ardila - A Hidden Gem
Last week I took our boys to a little adventure. A drive to explore our region. We always liked to do that, whether in France or now here in Portugal. It is a great way to learn about where you live, experience the outdorrs, discover beautiful places, breathe fresh air, see wildlife, and connect with the most important people of your life.
That morning I wanted to go check Rio Ardila, as it seemed there are some great bird species being spotted there, like the Little Bittern or the White-rumped Swift. The river is 166km long but there were one or two specific spots I had planned to discover. Rio Ardila starts in Spain and is a tributary of Rio Guadiana. I had know what we found would be that beautiful.
There was nobody around, water was pretty clear, birds were all around us. While watching the boys making sure they would not go in the water by themselves as they do not know how to swim yet, I have spotted a European Bee-eater, a Grey Heron, a Common Kingfisher, Red-rumped Swallows and several other bird species. I cannot wait to spend more time there, exploring different parts of the river, finding more secrets little spots and have more family adventures.
If you want to visit us and explore our beautiful region that is Alentejo, feel free to contact us. We are looking forward to hearing from you.
