100 bird species spotted on our land in Alentejo!!
We are now in May 2023, exactly one year after we moved to this beautiful corner of inland Alentejo, and we have just spotted our 100th bird species on our land! The 100th species is the Long-eared Owl, as for several nights we heard the chicks calling at dusk. Wow!
Among the last 50 species we spotted are some fantastic species, such as the Eurasian Wryneck, the Western Marsh Harrier, the Iberian Green Woodpecker, the Bonelli’s Eagle. We start to see patterns the different seasons, noticing which species are only migrating through our land, which ones are wintering, and which ones are breeding here. It is an absolute delight to see birds everyday at home~.
We are not sure we will now be able many more species, as 100 already seems pretty incredible. Let’s see!
