Seeing the 3 endemic birds of the Iberian Peninsula from home
The Iberian peninsula consists of Portugal and Spain. In this peninsula, there are 3 endemic bird species. An endemic bird species is one that is found only in a single defined geographic location. The 3 bird endemic birds of the Iberian peninsula are:
the Spanish Eagle
the Iberian Magpie
It sounds incredible, but we have the chance to see all these 3 bird species on our land almost every day. The one that we see the most often is the Iberian Magpie, as they love to feed on our fruit trees : quince trees, fig trees, barbary figs, grapes, etc. Then comes the Iberian Green Woodpecker, that we at least hear almost everyday. And finally, the Spanish Eagle, which flies over our land very very often. We see both immature and adults Spanish Eagles, and we know there is at least 2 nests not too far from home.
